Outlander Lallybroch Filming Rescheduled for September?

midhope-web-image-2.jpg

There was some consternation earlier this week when scheduled filming at Midhope Castle, Lallybroch to Outlander Fans, had filming cancelled.  There had been a few days of scheduled filming commencing on August 26th. A press release by the Houpton Estate said that the filming had been postponed due to an actor growing a beard for another production. Apparently this would be too much hair for the production? The estate said it would be having filming possibly September 2 – 6.

It is possible that this is a delaying tactic to abate too many visitors being around during filming. Some of the filming sites are getting mobbed during the hight of tourist season and this can make filming difficult.

If you were planning on traveling to the area this week, call ahead to make sure you can have access.

Outlander Season 5 Premiere Date Announced February 2020

Screen Shot 2019-08-29 at 3.34.32 PM

Starz® just announced today that Season 5 of the Outlander series will premiere on February 16, 2020. The time travel series about a World War II combat nurse Claire, (Caitriona Balfe), her husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) continues its next season on Fraser’s Ridge in North Carolina. The Frasers will be dealing with new settlers on the ridge, Jamie seeking recruits for a mustering to hunt down the Regulators and namely his Godfather Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (Duncan Lacroix). Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) will seek to get married and care for wee Jeremiah together, albeit with their history of contention, there will be some rough roads ahead. Not to mention the ghost of Stephen Bonnet. Will we see Young Ian (John Bell) come back from his time with the Mohawk? There will undoubtably be trouble with Governor Tryon, we know that Tim Downie has had quite a few BTS days on his Instagram feed of late. Marsali and Fergus may get that print shop together after all.

It doesn’t state in the synopsis whether they are taking material from The Fiery Cross, or taking elements of the storyline and possibly blending some of it in with the 6th installment, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. It has been stated by Executive Producer Ronald d. Moore that they may be taking half of a book and blending it with another. The books, if you have read them, are lengthly indeed and very detailed. Not everything translates well to screen. And since Dianna Gabaldon is finishing up another installment, which takes 4 to 5 years, it is quite possible that the series my overtake the book series, much lake Game of Thrones surpassed its authors writing and ended as a series this year. Could it be that Moore and Mathew B. Roberts see that the story line may play out or that Starz® may stop production after two more seasons?

Ah, and there is a big gathering at the beginning of the Fiery Cross, the fifth book in the Outlander series written by Diana Gabaldon with all kinds of drama and mischief.

Starz® released this synopsis for the upcoming season:

Season 5 of “Outlander” finds the Frasers fighting for their family and the home they have forged on Fraser’s Ridge. Jamie must find a way to defend all that he has created in America, and to protect those who look to him for leadership and protection – while hiding his personal relationship with Murtagh Fitzgibbons, the man whom Governor William Tryon has ordered him to hunt down and kill.

With her family together at last, Claire Fraser must use her modern medical knowledge and foresight to prevent them from being ripped apart once again. However, while focusing on protecting others, she risks losing sight of what it means to protect herself.

Meanwhile, Brianna Fraser and Roger MacKenzie have been reunited, but the spectre of Stephen Bonnet still haunts them. Roger strives to find his place – as well as Jamie’s respect – in this new and dangerous time. The Frasers must come together, navigating the many perils that they foresee – and those they can’t

Busy Outlander Cast Party Hard off Screen

Screen Shot 2019-08-21 at 12.35.09 PMWhile taking a break in filming in the last two weeks, some of the stars have been seeing to personal business and just plain shenanigans.

Last week, Catriona Balfe tied the  knot with fiancé Anthony “Tony” McGill, a music producer, on August 10, 2019. A quiet church wedding in Bruton, Somerset UK. Hopefully this puts to rest a lot of the ugly “shipping” that has been going on in the Outlander feeds about Cait and Sam. The honeymoon is on hold, as Balfe got right back at it with shooting on Monday.

Duncan Lacroix has been catching up on his Instagram account after weeks of Regulator maneuvers. He found his old business card which makes me just want to run out and get some printed myself.

And a few days back, this “Squad” was celebrating. We don’t know if it’s a combo celebration because another block of filming is done, Producer Matt B. Roberts announced they are just past half way on filming, or that Sam’s new Whiskey line, The Sassenach Unique Spirits, has announced its first release, or various combo party things. But if you just look at that table. Attendees included Duncan Lacroix, David Berry, Sophie Skelton. And how is it Duncan manages to find all of the parties?

We’re still wondering on the story behind calling it Sassenach since he’s a Scot. Check it out at Instagram @sassenachspirits. It’s Sam’s new business venture with Great Glen Company. Check out sassenachspirits.com. Much of which will be drunk on the new Clanlands podcast debuting next month with Sam and Graham McTavish talking clan history. Check out the new Instagram at @clanlands.

Cambusbarron, Stirling Area Night Shoot August 9, 2019

images-5.jpgRumor has it tonight the “Night Shoot” Duncan Lacroix mentioned this week is occurring in Cambusbarron area, near Stirling. The somewhat secret location of where Fraser’s Ridge is staged. These are the same woods areas used for earlier season night shoots with The Regulators. People are waiting for friends who may have been filming BTS. Stay tuned. Hope those of you traveling were lucky enough to get to the Stirling area. Murrays Wood, Mine Woods and Murrayshall Quarry, near Stirling.IMG_3135

Interested in the save Gillies Hill Campaign? The quarry is under threat again and may mean Outlander filming will be impacted in the area.

Duncan Lacroix Will Be a Bit Late to Highlanders 4 Con/Starfury Birmingham

IMG_3118Actor Duncan Lacroix posted on Instagram today after several weeks absence that he is fully intending on being at Starfury’s Highlander Con this weekend August 9-11 in Birmingham, UK. Apparently there is a night shoot Friday he must attend for a pesky show called Outlander.

Anyone know where they are filming this week? Fans of the show are desperately trying to find out.

If you are lucky enough to go to the con and get pictures with Duncan, please share to Twitter #duncanlacroix as many people will love you for it. Have a blast. He’s threatening to look very disheveled, so we can’t wait.

Other attendees are David Berry, Lotte Verbeek, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Lauren Lyle, Ed Speleers, and Steven Cree.

Outlander Season 5 Casting Announcement Mark Barrett

IMG_3107Actor Mark Barrett has been chosen to fill a “featured” role in Season 5 of Outlander. “Featured” usually means recurring character, small role. His agency, International Artists Management, announced his casting on July 31, 2019. However, the character he is playing has not been named.

Warning, spoilers ahead.

Given the story arch of The Regulators and various historical figures involved in that conflict, it is possible he could be playing one of the leaders. However if he is recurring, then we suspect with his features and coloring, he may be playing the character of  William Buccleigh MacKenzie. Who is that? Book readers know that Roger MacKenzie’s ancestors were descended from Geillis Duncan and Dougal MacKenzie. That son is William Buccleigh MacKenzie.

On Rogers trip to America on the Gloriana ship in Season 4 (1769), he defends a woman and her child fearing they will be thrown overboard by Stephan Bonnet as the baby has a rash. Bonnet is throwing anyone with signs of pestilence overboard. Roger finds out that this woman is Morag MacKenzie, and her child Jeremiah is Roger’s several times Great-Grandfather, and name he knows from his family lineage. She is married to William (Buck) Buccleigh MacKenzie. Roger meets Morag again in The Fiery Cross, the book that Season 5 is based on. This time it is during the War of the Regulation. Let’s just say Buck MacKenzie and Roger don’t get along well.

OR

Since this actor looks a lot like Richard Rankin in features, it is possible that he may be playing his father, Jeremiah MacKenzie. Jeremiah MacKenzie was supposedly shot down and killed in WWII, and after Rogers mother dies, he goes to live with his uncle, the Reverend Wakefield. Again, more details on this in future books.

Also announced from the same agency on June 28 2019, Leonard Cook will be joining Outlander Season 5 for a featured role.

However this will come out, once Sony Pictures and Starz have announced a new character like this, if they are following suit with prior years, we will get more announcements of casting over the next few months as they wrap up filming for Season 5.
