Graham McTavish Update: TGOS, Clanlands

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As you may have read by now, This Guest of Summer film to be directed by Graham McTavish and with a few Outlander and Hobbit Alums in for good measure, has been delayed a few more months. Rumor has it the scouting for locations and their availability have been part of the hold up, plus moving the production from the original New Zealand site to possibly Scotland/UK filming due to funding and camera crew availability.

That also bumped into Graham’s project with Sam Heughan, Clanlands. The original podcast concept has now blossomed into a filmed series, with three camera persons. The month of September saw the two friends caravaning all over Scotland, from clan to clan, to distilleries, and huffing it on a bicycle built for two. Not to mention hillwalking andThe rich landscape of the high and low lands of Scotland will be featured. The series has not found a network to debut on but they plan to have it air sometime in 2020.

The series follows The Jacobite Trail, something you can do when touring Scotland. It features all the Highland troupes movements and locations of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the lead up to the Battle of Culloden. I traveled just one quarter of this trail and it does take time to get in all of the locations. Planning a trip to Scotland? You can learn more about it here Travel the Jacobite Trail

The Making of Outlander: The Series 3 and 4 Releases on October 15, 2019

If you were lucky enough to have a book signing with Tara Bennet and Diana Gabaldon at Poison Pen Press, you would have got advance copies of this last month. If you were even more lucky at NYCC 2019, there were copies of the book and a panel by the two authors. And some book signings and photo sessions.

The Making of Outlander Series first came out two years ago covering seasons 1 and 2. Tara Bennet is an author and co-authhor of several books on filming series and films: Showrunners: The Art of Running a TV Show, The Art of Ice Age, as well as editor at SFX Magazine, writer for Sci Fi Magazine, and a West Coast Correspondent for SyFy Channel, Wire. Her treatment of the first book in the series has left many of us starving for more. Hopefully this new edition will help us get through the next few months of Droughtlander.

The heavy coffee table book is a break down of each episode, BTS pictures, interviews with actors, and delving into the behind the scenes art departments and camera crews. As if you cannot get enough of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe splashed on all the entertainment and fashion magazines, having a large hard bound glossy book with all your favorite characters, including new villains is just the answer to help you get through the parched post productions season.

Available through all book outlets and hopefully your local stores Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

Outlander Panel at NYCC 2019 Season 5 Musings

Outlander-NYCC-17-530x353

The cast of Outlander Season 5 was asked a battery of questions for an hour on the Hulu Stage at Madison Square Garden on October 5, 2019. Many were from fans and a few from presenter @GingerZee. It was live broadcast on SyFy Wire at 5:30pm EST.

Cast members Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Duncan Lacroix, David Berry, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Maril Davis (Producer), Ron D. Moore (Showrunner/Producer), and author Diana Gabaldon arrived at the panel. Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin were absent this year and filming in Scotland for the show, however there was a question and answer video from them and a new Season 5 teaser.

What we know from the new Season 5 trailer and the three panels at Comic Con?

Claire wants Brianna, Roger, and Jemmy to go back. It is too dangerous in the 18th century, and she blames herself. They are there because of her choice to go back. There is the growing conflict with The Regulators, which is a small prelude of things to come with the larger scaled American Revolution. Roger wants to go back, and Brianna clearly states that their family is there. What she really fears is that Jem can’t go through the stones, and the safety of her parents.

In the spirit of letting the audience in on as much as they could, with the watchful and warning Maril Davis, Maria Doyle Kennedy admitted that Jocasta (er) would have “relationships”. Those of you who have read the books know where this may be going. Duncan Lacroix stated that the role of Murtagh has been ramping up each season, and in Season 5 he is doing some of his most challenging work.  Sam and Caitriona talked about the dangers of the New World, the upcoming battles, and family concerns.

Casting Season 5 Update: Got a Beardsley Twin, or William Ransome?

paul-gorman-headshot

This week we saw a blip about and announcement for a young Scottish actor, Paul Gorman. Book enthusiasts know of the characters of the Beardsley twins, two boys that end up being taken into the fold at Frasers Ridge, which is becoming a community of misfits and families that the Frasers (Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan) take under their wings. With casting for young Jemmy, there will need to be at least two sets of twins for ages. Given the privacy of young children, we may not see good pictures until after season premier. However the Beardsley twins are a bit older, and they are twins who share many a scene together. That’s why the casting of a young relatively unknown, Paul Gorman is a mystery. Will he be a Beardsley, playing both roles, or playing William. Photos have come out this week showing Lord John Grey and a very young officer.

Paul Gorman has done extensive stage work with Scottish Youth Theater and is a member of Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. There are two film credits, Eavesdrop and Tooth. Outlander is a great vehicle for new talent to showcase.
