Many of you lucky fans are hopping the Atlantic and exploring Scotland to follow in the footsteps of Jamie and Claire. There are a great many locations for seasons 1-4 and if you went solidly to just see all locations, it would take more than three weeks of travel. You may have to make some choices and come back again. That wouldn’t be so terrible.
Having gone to Scotland twice since the filming began, and relying on public transport for most of my stay, I found it very limiting in some cases when on public transit to try to get every day filled with locations. There are Outlander Tours a plenty if you have it in your budget, and knowing which ones are good can be difficult, as all of the commercial touring companies have set up tours. Not all tour companies have quality tours, for any of their tours. Check out trip reviews before you use one. Large tour buses to sites are highly annoying, difficult to get around to sites, and you will be limited to where these monsters can go. Keep in mind that some tours may cancel or skip some locations due to time constraints. If you want a smaller intimate tour, which I do recommend van tours, check out my Tours Page. I am collecting information and feedback from people who have taken tours, and so far the ones listed have had favorable reviews.
Check out Traveling Savage’s Scotland article:
Obtaining a hire car with several travel friends can be managed, however familiarize yourself with the driving laws, and the driver cannot have access to a phone for navigation. There are heavy fines for phone use while driving. Many companies will take a huge deposit and not return it if there is even the smallest of scratches on the car. Check out hire car reviews!
I have created a resource after my last visit. This and a good map should help you to plan. It is a Google Docs Document:

@Stewart9395 Duncan Lacroix arrives
Great catches by both @Stewart9395 and Outlandish Journeys, one of the tour groups listed on our Outlander Tours page, of some BTS pictures and video on the late afternoon setup and evening shoot for the show’s season 5 first block of shooting in Bridge of Allen, just north of Stirling. The filming took place in the quarry by the golf course, in Mine Woods.
Filming was with Duncan Lacroix (Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser) and the Regulators extras.
I want to thank both Stewart and Outlandish Journeys for taking the time and patience to wait and film, and as always, not film the filming process. If you are lucky and stumble upon filming in your travels, we appreciate it if you do the same. Let’s give everyone the creative space they need.

And some Regulators.

Night shoot spotted on May 6, 2019 by @stewart9395 at Mine Woods, Bridge of Allan, a small town near Stirling, Scotland. None other than Duncan Lacroix was spotted going in and reconnoitering the area, and what looks to be the Regulators forming up. Production area is a camp scene and small crossroads or trading area in the wooded area around the quarry. The Movie Makers equipment trailers and lorries are up and in position.
Check out the Bridge of Allan Facebook page @bridgeofallan for all the up to dates as locals snap shots.

If you are fortunate to be in Scotland for the next few days, May 6-8, you may catch some of the filming. Maybe even give a Regulator a hug. They will need it.

Looks like some Outlander Hunters have spotted some well guarded buildings near Doune Castle. Must be filming. If you are traveling near Stirling, Scotland, you should make a visit to Doune Castle by all means, as it has been used for filming not only Season 1 of Outlander, but Monty Python’s Holy Grail, and some bits for GOT. Close by is David Stirling Memorial, and past that a bit in the wooded area you may find that an area is blocked off and guarded. There are buildings there. They look suspiciously like Fraser’s Ridge to us all right. From Stewart on Twitter. It is still rumored that Cumbernauld Glen is continuing to be used for parts of Fraser’s Ridge.
If you are a keen Outlander filming local hunter this spring and summer, send us you snaps and info. We’d love to share the fun.
Official release date is May 28, 2019. But some of the features have already leaked out on the internet. I highly recommend the Collector’s Edition. The packaging has been great for previous seasons, and this season they are adding even more features.
To get the deluxe collector’s edition or not, is the question. I will tell you that I did not for Season 2 and regretted it as the packaging for the Blue-ray makes you jumble and shuffle the discs in storage. The price has officially dropped in Season 4 Collector’s Edition, averaging $44.98 US from the original $68.99. UK £20.00 to £30.00 . UK Amazon not offering the collectors edition at this time. As promised this boxed set includes some features including:
In the UK, it is being packaged as an “Untold Edition” at Amazon, running at about £27.00 for the Blu-ray.
In ‘Outlander Untold’ found on the ‘Outlander’ Season 4 Blu-ray and DVD, dive deeper into the season with four all-new bonus scenes featuring fan-favorite characters. These extended stories dive into Lord John Grey’s life as a single father to William, Murtagh and Marsali navigating a confrontation with deceitful landlords, Young Ian meeting Rollo for the first time, and Aunt Jocasta teaching Phaedre & Lizzie a lesson about working together.

This morning we awoke to Duncan Lacroix staring over his own shoulder. The offices are filling up with not only production crew, but the actors are coming in to get ready for read throughs and fittings.
Production: Jon Gary Steele has been busy on his Instagram account helping everyone survive along with Matt Roberts. Jon has been featuring BTS of builds both on site and in the studios at Wardpark Film and Television studios. We are left guessing which scene, which episode, and the identity of some items not quite finished. Jon has been showing some great pre build bones on the set of the cabins, and one this week that may be S5’s Big House. Fans of the Outlander Books are waiting for representation of their favorite parts of Fraser’s Ridge. We were hoping for a cabin build for Murtagh, but with the cliff hanger in Season 4, were’s hoping that Jamie and Claire may still build it in the hope someday he can live out his days there. Perhaps a very deep basement to hide in with access to the outside with escape tunnels. What, Jon can do that.

Looking at the set builds both at the studios with Caitriona Balfe’s live action B&W set building tour was a blast this week, she even caught a dodging Jon Gary Steele, not one for the limelight, but who is kind to share the magnificent work his crew does daily.
For those of you lucky enough to start chasing the film crews as they start up in the next few months, here are the locales for River Run and the Indian Village, Frasers Ridge.
River Run was filmed here last year
Frasers Ridge was filmed in parts of these two areas. You will have to hunt for the various places filmed:
Cumbernauld House Park and Glen

Do you know where? Kept a huge secret because of roaming laws in Scotland, as well as landowners in the area. Places where outdoor scenes have been filmed are in
Indian Villages were created in:

Fans of actor Duncan Lacroix got some much missed love this week when he posted some BTS from last year. Included what he wore in the Sisters Brothers and some details on the wee role. Outlaw King childhood channeling and some Outlander BTS humor. His followers have skyrocketed again, despite his wanting little to do with social media.
