Outlander LA Premiere Today at 5:30 pm PST and Interview Round-Up

IMG_4175

It’s two more sleeps and the Outlander drought is over for this year. Earlier this week, New York had its premiere. And apparently, Sam Heughn let slip that it may be Murtagh’s last stand? Caitriona Balfe tried to save him, or stop him, and Sophie Skelton sought to deflect. But were they successful? There was a gasp in the audience. Was it an intentional slip, meant to tease? Who knows?

Go to the Facebook page for the live broadcast at 5:30 PM.

Is This The End of…

We have all surmised that it may finally be Murtagh’s end. Historically the Battle of Almanance saw an answer by Governor Tryon (Tim Downie) with the hanging of some of the dissidents. If you are a book reader and history buff, you know about the last stand of the Regulators at Almanance and how it lit the fuel for further rebellion. However, Murtagh has survived before, and possibly he can escape. If Stephen Bonnet can do it, he most certainly can. Or will he sacrifice himself for another? Nail-biting commence. Got that dram handy?

The Low Down

Recent interviews with Matthew B. Roberts, producer, and writer on the series, have revealed what many of us book readers knew, there’s going to be another wedding. I didn’t expect them to be so revealing about it, as they usually like to keep cards close until the first episode has aired.

The costumes and wedding pictures revealed the wedding dress of Brianna very early on this last month. This is a departure from another wedding dress that was kept under wraps for some time. Roberts reveals more details on the season, the conflict as it stands for Jamie and Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix), Godfather and Godson on two opposing sides. Jamie will don the redcoat of the British Army, and the army that has dogged him all of his life, to keep the land grant for Fraser’s Ridge.

Claire will be urging Brianna, Roger, and Jemmy to go back through the stones. The violence is mounting with the heavy taxation by the crown. Both Brianna and Roger, (Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin) know what will happen during the next 5 years. Claire fears for their safety. And everyone has that newspaper clipping about a particular fire on Fraser’s Ridge that is a few years away, in the back of their minds. Jamie is in conflict, he doesn’t want them to leave. He finally has his family around him. He already lost 20 years with Claire after forcing her to go back to their time.

There’s going to be further Murcasta Emo, with ups and downs. Their star crossed love will play out over the season. It will be a bit of a rollercoaster. Not a surprise with two Firey personalities. Will they secretly get married? Or will Jocasta (Maria Doyle Kennedy) be forced to marry a particular naval officer to keep suspicions at bay?

When and Where to Watch Season 5

The drop for Season 5 is at Midnight (ET) Saturday, February 15th on the Starz App, 9 pm PT. It will be 8 pm (ET/PT) on Sunday, 16 February on Starz cable. In Canada, it’s on the W Network premiering at 9pm on Starz.

UK watchers can view Outlander on Monday, February 17 on Amazon. Australian viewers on the same date, on Foxtel.

Watch for Sam Heuhan and Caitriona Balfe on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

The series has been very good at managing its pre-season reveals. Many of the supporting actors must wait until it is official for them to announce they’re even being on the show. Veteran actors of the series have been releasing all sorts of behind the scenes goodies.

The Crew

We’d also like to thank the film crew and everyone else who makes this show great. The cast is very supportive of who makes them look fantastic.

Check the cavalcade of BTS below. And one really great shot of Duncan Lacroix by Richard Rankin, Film-Noir Murtagh.

Outlander season 5: Caitriona Balfe says series won’t face problems like Game of Thrones

Outlander Season 5 Premiere Date Announced February 2020

Screen Shot 2019-08-29 at 3.34.32 PM

Starz® just announced today that Season 5 of the Outlander series will premiere on February 16, 2020. The time travel series about a World War II combat nurse Claire, (Caitriona Balfe), her husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) continues its next season on Fraser’s Ridge in North Carolina. The Frasers will be dealing with new settlers on the ridge, Jamie seeking recruits for a mustering to hunt down the Regulators and namely his Godfather Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (Duncan Lacroix). Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) will seek to get married and care for wee Jeremiah together, albeit with their history of contention, there will be some rough roads ahead. Not to mention the ghost of Stephen Bonnet. Will we see Young Ian (John Bell) come back from his time with the Mohawk? There will undoubtably be trouble with Governor Tryon, we know that Tim Downie has had quite a few BTS days on his Instagram feed of late. Marsali and Fergus may get that print shop together after all.

It doesn’t state in the synopsis whether they are taking material from The Fiery Cross, or taking elements of the storyline and possibly blending some of it in with the 6th installment, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. It has been stated by Executive Producer Ronald d. Moore that they may be taking half of a book and blending it with another. The books, if you have read them, are lengthly indeed and very detailed. Not everything translates well to screen. And since Dianna Gabaldon is finishing up another installment, which takes 4 to 5 years, it is quite possible that the series my overtake the book series, much lake Game of Thrones surpassed its authors writing and ended as a series this year. Could it be that Moore and Mathew B. Roberts see that the story line may play out or that Starz® may stop production after two more seasons?

Ah, and there is a big gathering at the beginning of the Fiery Cross, the fifth book in the Outlander series written by Diana Gabaldon with all kinds of drama and mischief.

Starz® released this synopsis for the upcoming season:

Season 5 of “Outlander” finds the Frasers fighting for their family and the home they have forged on Fraser’s Ridge. Jamie must find a way to defend all that he has created in America, and to protect those who look to him for leadership and protection – while hiding his personal relationship with Murtagh Fitzgibbons, the man whom Governor William Tryon has ordered him to hunt down and kill.

With her family together at last, Claire Fraser must use her modern medical knowledge and foresight to prevent them from being ripped apart once again. However, while focusing on protecting others, she risks losing sight of what it means to protect herself.

Meanwhile, Brianna Fraser and Roger MacKenzie have been reunited, but the spectre of Stephen Bonnet still haunts them. Roger strives to find his place – as well as Jamie’s respect – in this new and dangerous time. The Frasers must come together, navigating the many perils that they foresee – and those they can’t

Bridge of Allan Facebook Page

Night shoot spotted on May 6, 2019 by @stewart9395 at Mine Woods, Bridge of Allan, a small town near Stirling, Scotland. None other than Duncan Lacroix was spotted going in and reconnoitering the area, and what looks to be the Regulators forming up. Production area is a camp scene and small crossroads or trading area in the wooded area around the quarry. The Movie Makers equipment trailers and lorries are up and in position.

Check out the Bridge of Allan Facebook page @bridgeofallan for all the up to dates as locals snap shots.

If you are fortunate to be in Scotland for the next few days, May 6-8, you may catch some of the filming. Maybe even give a Regulator a hug. They will need it.

Season 5 Production Previews

Screen Shot 2019-05-05 at 2.16.43 PM

Teaser Gif with Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin

If you have Starz® on cable or satellite, there’s promise of an Outlander Season 5 glimpse before Starz® debut of The Spanish Princess, May 5 at 8PM EST. Otherwise  known as Katherine of Aragon, the series tells the story of who became first wife to Henry VIII after she was married to his elder brother. You can watch the new series debut now on the Starz® App, and tonight on the cable channel. Before the show you will get a first glimpse at filming for Outlander Season 5. I have read several postings and many have seen this. However, apparently if you have it through Amazon Prime, you don’t get a peek.

We asked Starz® on Twitter if they would have a glimpse for those of us who App it, they assured us we would have access. Sorry to say, this techie wasn’t able to get Amazon Starz® App to display it, you may have to watch it through your computer. If you have the App and have a cable provider, you may be able to view it. Never fear, it will turn up on the YouTube site soon, if some fans don’t manage to broadcast it earlier. Here’s what showed up Monday on YouTube.

Costume Changes for The Show

We have viewed a few new costume changes for the show. Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, shared a glimpse of new attire on his birthday, was a scant day or two away from book Jamie character’s birthday. Jamie Fraser would be 298 years old today. There have been hints that Jamie would travel to the future in Season 5 rumors, but book readers know the only way that happens is the mysterious ghost of the Highlander in the series pilot episode that Frank encounters watching Claire from the window. It also looks like all the wigs have changed for the main 5 characters as well.d5fvwo5uuaal3x2-1556733416

We’re getting our first taste of how seasons 5 and 6 flavors may go. For those of you watching from day one on the series, seasons 1 and 2 had many of the same production flavors, with 3 and 4 being dynamically different. Different writers, directors, crews changed. The writer’s room Toni Graphia and Matt Roberts started taking over podcasts and after show commentary, and the storylines, though expected to change, had very different looks and feels in the production designs. Coming to the Colonial America location would change things a bit. It looks like the new costume designer, Starz alumni Trisha Biggar, is revamping the looks of the show already. To look at her impressive CV, check this out. She has worked on two Star Wars films, and on television costumed for Emerald City and Da Vinci’s Demons II & III. She has credit for Season 5 Outlander already listed. We have been very fortunate with Terry Dresbach’s Twitter postings, and blog shares for the past 4 seasons. She has promised to try to keep up the account now for design concepts only. However, we don’t know if Biggar has a Twitter presence in mind for her tenure in season 5. With the few shots we have seen already, there are some stark costume changes. What can you do if you live in a colony that is heavily taxed on goods, including materials for dress, how realistic is it that characters can obtain new clothing.

Teaser Leaks and Rumors Abound

Duncan Lacroix and Caitriona Balfe are seen sporting darker brown wigs in the production teaser, no silver steaks for Claire. Rumors are flying that there are some flash back scenes being filmed. Or is it that they have to disguise Murtagh somehow as he is now even more wanted by Gov. Tryon? Lacroix’s Instagram had a great shot of Graham McTavish and him paling around near the Stevenson Memorial in Edinburgh today. Could there be some flashback scenes in season 5? Last season we had a Frank and Bree on that fateful night.Screen Shot 2019-05-05 at 3.30.48 PM

Table Reads Start for Season 5 Outlander

Screen Shot 2019-04-04 at 7.25.34 PM

Sophie Skelton in the Armory having a blast off

As you may have read in the various feeds, there have been a lot of new changes for Season 5. One of them is that both Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are now producing for season 5. We know that Cait is very serious about this new role, as she showed up on set well before Sam did, because she is such the professional. Both actors hinted at taking on greater roles in the production of the Outlander series late last year. We’ll see what new directions the series takes with the pair taking a hand in production.

Other actors from the show, all showing their scripts or table cards started posting on Instagram this week, including Duncan Lacroix, whose name was misrepresented again, and lamented over a bit in his Instagram feed. But he takes it all in with great humor.

Hang on and keep checking your feeds, it’s going to be a long Droughtlander.

Season 5 Returns, Casting Calls?

IMG_2757

Sam Heughan Instagram

Fans are already rewatching seasons 1 through 3, and watching downloads of season 4 to get through the dreaded Droughtlander. For the last two weeks, main cast members confirmed they are returning to work at Wardpark Studios in Cumbernauld, outside of Glasgow. Sophie Skelton, Caitriona Balfe, and Duncan Lacroix have all had great Instagram moments. The following actors have been confirmed for the season:

Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Richard Rankin, Sophie Skelton, Cesar Domboy, John Bell, Duncan Lacroix, Ed Speleers who is off filming an indie film in the Glasgow Scotland area this week, and Lauren Lyle.

img_2088Still waiting on confirmation for newer characters from Season 4 returning for Season 5, however as they are integral to The Fiery Cross, the 5th book in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander Series, they should be making an appearance. Maria Kennedy Doyle, Colin McFarlane, and Tim Downie as Gov. Tryon. We definitely expect to see Tryon again as the storyline will be driven by the War of the Regulators, a precursor war about over taxation that began the path to the American Revolution. The Governor is keen to stamp out the insurgency, and fully fund his new mansion. IMG_1975

The show averages 8 months of filming and 4 of production/editing on the back end. We are heading into a 2020 spring or summer timeframe for Season 5.

Casting has gone out for two sets of twins, presumably for Jemmy, Roger and Brianna’s child. One for a year old and one for toddler.

Stay tuned on the main Outlander IMDh page as season 5 information slowly makes its way forward.

Outlander Season 4 Official Trailers and Gifphy Gifs

Starz™ has released the official Season 4 Trailers for Outlander this past week and it looks absolutely stunning. Make your plans for your watching parties with friends, a whole slew of new characters are coming. Aunt Jocasta, Phaedre, Lizzie, Stephan Bonnet, and many new friends and foes. And yes, Seasons 5 and 6 have been green lit. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are back as Jaimie and Claire, ready for adventures in the New World. And as usual, attracting danger at every turn. Brianna, their daughter, is still back in the 20th Century, but as fans of the books know, she is restless and wants desperately to see her mother again, and maybe meet for father. This season focuses on discovery, and finding a home for our often beleaguered, well traveled couple.

Banish the concerns of Scotland standing in for the American East Coast during Colonial times. Over the years, it has become increasingly hard to film any historical dramas based on the eastern shores of the US due to the high cost of filming. Trying to film in two or more countries for such a series, as we have seen in two past seasons, delays production and adds to the costs. Have no fear, if you have travelled to Scotland and walked the forested areas and moors, you’ll see flora that is very similar to our own. Where do you think much of our wild plants traveled from? Over countless years of travel, as we will see in the new series, people brought their culture and often a few plants along the way. However, the fabulous design team for sets headed up by Jon Gary Steele, Production Designer, have never left us wanting. Each season they outperform the last. What will they do to top last seasons Print Shop? I’m dying to see River Run, Aunt Jocasta’s Plantation in North Carolina. I highly recommend following Gary on Twitter @jongarysteele if you haven’t already. He brings up great design features from past seasons because he knows you are suffering Droughtlander. And once the season starts, he’ll let you in on a few new beauties.
